Born in New York November 13, 1979 and raised in Puerto Rico. Erik Rodríguez is an improviser, actor and theater director graduated with a bachelor degree in Drama from Universidad del Sagrado Corazón in San Juan Puerto Rico. During his years as a student, Erik discovered the art of improvisation through professor Gigio Giraldo. It was Giraldo who immediately saw a gift in Erik as an improviser and invited him to be part of his team during 5 years. During these 5 years Erik worked hand in hand with Giraldo and because of his excellent execution he won a grant to study in Accademia Nazionale D’ Arte Silvio d’Amico at Rome. Rodriguez was able to tale workshops in theater direction, performance psychology and scenic development. Once the grant ended, Erik returned to Puerto Rico where he once again reunited with Professor Giraldo and together created the first improv festivals in Puerto Rico under the group Iocus. In these festivals, improv groups from countries like Spain, Peru, Mexico, United States, and Argentina participated. Rodriguez also established several groups of impro during these years, among these, Impropio group. Years later, his career took a turn and lead him to New York, where he worked with legendary group The Living Theater directed by Judith Malina. Once in NY, he participated in local plays and was able to offer several workshops like Improterapia, Development & Psychology of Characters and Emotional Intelligence for the Creation of Characters. From New York, Erik traveled to Spain for an opportunity to participate in Planeta Impro, Spain’s most acclaimed improv group. There he collaborated for 4 years as an invitee and then for 3 years as a resident improviser. He performed 864 shows during these 3 years gaining experience and his peers respect. While in Spain, he was able to impart Improterapia workshops in Valencia, Madrid, Barcelona, London & Italy, among other European countries. In 2013, it was time to return to his country to continue working on his professional career and his passion for improvisation. Since then, Improterapia has visited countries like Peru, Colombia, Japan, Mexico & Chicago. Erik continues to produce improv shows with his group Jibarito Improv Theater & offering Improterapia workshops among individuals and corporate clients.
